First International Balloon Flight a Success!
The
first Colorado Local Post international balloon flight took place
on April 14, 1979, in Switzerland. A total of 50 covers were
prepared (plus two incidental covers) and flown by helium balloon,
which landed near Steinhuserberg, Switzerland. Each cover was
franked with Swiss stamps, a Colorado Local Post balloon stamp, and
a special "EFP" admission label (see following related article).

In addition, each cover was autographed by the pilot,
internationally known Fred Dolder. A veteran of many hundreds
of flights, he is the oldest living helium balloon pilot in the world.
He is also the recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross from the
government of Austria for his work in organizing balloon flights for
the benefit of orphaned children.

As
mentioned in the article on the international balloon flight, the
CLP issued a special admission label for use on covers carried on
the flight. Its purpose is to make up the difference between
the face value of balloon stamps affixed and the fee charged for the
event. The CLP charges $3 for international events. Since
no sufficiently high denominations existed for this event, and since
there was no room on the covers to affix enough 10c-balloon stamps,
the EFP label was employed. The label was printed in small sheets
of one imperforate subject. Its color is red violet.
